Cliff Burns: In Performance

At long last it’s done.

My son Sam completed final edits on the film he shot of my reading back in October, 2012.  The official launch of New & Selected Poems (1984-2011) and Stromata: Prose Works (1992-2011).

It was a huge file and he had to combine footage from a couple of cameras, synch sound, touch-up glitches and try to make an author reading as visually interesting as possible. No mean feat. But he’s done a fantastic job. The kid has an amazing eye and even if you don’t think much of the prose (or performer), I think you’ll agree that this effort is striking to look at, cut and trimmed and shaped with precision. All credit to my son, Sam Burns.

Here’s the reading, in its entirety.

Sit back and hit that play button…

Off to BandCamp…

Sherron has convinced me to offer some of my audio and spoken word pieces on the Bandcamp site.

Didn’t really cost me anything except time (uploads seemed to take forever) and now we’ll wait and see if this draws any more attention to my work. My audio stuff is available for free, as always; while BandCamp offers a decent selection, my complete output is only available here, on this site.

I notice that Amazon is now offering The Last Hunt as a pre-order; the Kindle version and e-book have been available for some time.

However you read my novel, in whatever format you favor, hope you enjoy my tall, western tale.

Tell your friends, get some word of mouth happening.

Help make this terrific indie release a huge success.

Listen to “The First Room” CBC Radio (Now Available!)

My radio play “The First Room” has been posted on CBC Radio’s “OutFront” site.  You can listen to it by clicking here.

The “official” broadcast date and time (Friday, February 6th; 8:43 p.m.) remain the same but for those of you unable to tune in then, here’s your chance to listen to the finest radio adaptation of my work yet.  The recording will likely be archived for a short while so please spread the word to one and all.

Let me know what you think…

(Note:  A couple of listeners have complained that they’re having trouble with the RealAudio player CBC Radio is employing.  My buddy Phil converted the program to an MP3 and it played like a charm.  So if any of you are more, ah, technically enabled, you might want to give that a try.)

“So Dark the Night” Podcast–Episode 1

Yes, it’s finally here.

Thanks to the technical acumen of my lovely wife, we now have the first 20 minutes or so of So Dark the Night available for your listening pleasure.  In all, we’ve recorded the initial 75 pages as a teaser and, depending on feedback from readers and listeners, we may do the whole novel.

The production, music & recording are all Sherron’s doing–the only thing required of me was to stand and deliver.  I miss my live readings/performances so I had a ball (once we figured out how to do it and I stopped having screaming, ranting, petulant fits) doing my thing.

We’re going to zip a link over to iTunes too so watch for further developments on that front.

But I do go on.

So click on the link below, sit back…and get ready for a fun ride.

(This item was out of date and has been removed–an MP3 version of So Dark the Night in its entirety will be available in the fall, 2010)
