“Deluge” (a new poem)

Deluge

“see my tears drop down again”,

as over-burdened clouds

release their precious bounty

I knelt in the forest

waiting my turn,

just another drop of rain

Note:  the first line is a direct quote from one of the survivors of the Khmer Rouge atrocities, responding to the lenient sentence meted out to a notorious torturer.

Many thanks–the entire poem was triggered by the remarkable first line. I read the quote on the BBC website and couldn’t get it out of my mind all morning long…
