I'm an educator in Morocco, where each year, I read a kids' book on Marco Polo to my third graders. They are always so inspired by Marco's story! They especially love the Polo's return to Venice where they hold a big party and cut gems out of the seams of their clothing, for everyone to see.

Cliff, I commented yesterday but I might have done something wrong in the process. To cut a long story short, I very much appreciated your comments on Bergreen's biography and will be looking for it here in Hong Kong. On another point, how many people today, do you think, are still much the same as Marco Polo's audience?

Granville Sutter. Even the character name sounds like someone who stepped from the pages of a McCarthy novel.
